REACH

Is the European Union’s New Regulation for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals.

The EU Parliament and Commission have adopted the REACH regulations (Reg. EC 1907/2006) and this is regarded as one of the strongest regulatory changes ever to hit the chemical industry.

REACH came into force from 1st June 2007.

A progressively more demanding implementation program has commenced. This will have significant impact for everybody in the chemicals industry.

All companies supplying or selling in the EU must register their substances (chemicals).

Registrations can only be submitted by EU based companies.

Options for a non-EU based chemical manufactures are:

Set up company in the EU;
Let current importing agents register products;
Stop selling in the EU;
Use an independent service organisation as the “only representative”.
